Sukrit Nagaraj aka Superheronagaraj wanted to tell his stories. But he did not know this yet.
As a child, he drew and drew, then some more. His grandmother fuelled this necessity by supplying him with sketchbooks endlessly. But when his grades began a fallin’ his teachers were appalling. He lay down his pencils and picked up notebooks.
After scraping through college (and earning BCom and LLB degrees in the process), on January 2nd, 2006, he took up a part-time job at a small-time firm. For the next eight years, he coded websites and designed branding assets. He worked with many noteworthy brands like Rolling Stone (India), Radiocity (Mumbai), Grey (India), and Gibson Guitars (India) till he heard his second calling.
Photography.
In 2008 he picked up an abandoned camera and played with it a lot. In 2010, he began covering the music scene in and around Bombay with his entry-level Nikon. By 2012 his work was getting noticed. He worked with big guns like Rolling Stone (India), Red Bull (India), OML, Asian Paints, the UB Group, Paagal Haina, and Blue Frog. He photographed prominent acts like Santana, Lamb of God, Slayer, Prateek Kuhad, Clinton Cerejo, Sasha Chhetri, Blakc, and Split. He even started his photography venture to document cultural stories across the country. But something was always amiss.
Towards the end of 2019, he knew he had to stop. Months of figuring- of trying this and playing that- ensued. Somewhere in 2020, he opened his drawer and found a pencil. He drew a shape. He smiled. He made another. He knew what he had to do.
It’s been almost three years, and he has never felt more fulfilled. He is drawing and writing stories, making comics and expressing himself. The medium he was in search of had found him. In August 2023, he finished illustrating and designing his first-ever graphic novel, and three more are in the pipeline. Exciting times await.
